It seems that Spring has not just woken up the vineyard, but also the whole wine business – with so much happening now all of a sudden. This works excellently for us, as we wait patiently for our vines to burst their new buds, and jump into life.

Hello friends, welcome back! We’re back with another update for you on life and times on our Eridge vineyard, so make yourself comfortable, it’s fika time.

As always we’ll begin with what is happening in the vineyard, where at the moment everything is… incredibly tidy! In the last month or so we finished not just all the winter pruning, and also the jobs that follow on from that.

Amongst these are a combination of collecting and mulching the prunings, and then as the rising soil temperature causes the sap to flow, the important and time consuming job of tying down. And now as the tiny buds of new growth have started to emerge, we wait.

Meanwhile our bubbles have been getting around a lot lately, including appointments in the capital for a tasting even at the Embassy of Japan, and another at the Savoy Hotel, for the Glass of Bubbly Show.

Then on Saturday we poured our wines at a wonderful tasting and dinner at the Frinton-on-Sea Lawn Tennis Club. Here you can see us under brilliant blue skies in Frinton, continuing a longstanding tradition – happy Swedish people at the tennis!

And as you may heave spotted, for this event we gave a debut to our brand new wine – the 2018 Blanc de Noirs. We’re so excited to finally share this wine. The verdict from James Max: “It’s sensationally good!”. Coming to a flute near you very soon (from mid-June).

In need of a toast for a special occasion? Then this will be of interest; again we have been fortunate to get another excellent write up, this time from journalist Terry Kirby.

Our Brut appeared in The Independent newspaper – featuring in a ’12 best English sparkling wines for toasting special occasions’ piece and receiving ‘Best Newcomer’ and a score of 9/10!

And the new country we mentioned? The picture here is our wine overseas, at the first ever English sparkling wine tasting in Israel! Taking place in Jaffa, and led by Moshe Cohen – they tasted six English sparkling wines, and two were ours. You can see them here ‘visiting’ the holy site Mount Tabor. Where next for them?

Right, that is all from us for now; we hope that your during your long Easter weekend there are moments to enjoy some of the finer things in life, and we will see you next time.

Skål! Susanna & Douglas
