Though small in number, these little guys are full of heart, producing grapes that tell the story of resilience and quality over quantity. Busi Jacobsohn Cuvée Brut 2017. This was our first vintage released in autumn 2019 after vines were planted in 2015.

A very special blend as the harvest was very small we had to press all the grapes together and so could not do a tasting and blend our selfes. The blend is 60 % Chardonnay, 20 % Pinot Noir, and 20 % Pinot Meunier, dosage 6.8 g/l.

A bit of nervous time before we could taste it in 2019 and many with us were surprised how good it tasted and a very different Cuve’ Brut, aromatic with tropical tastes. 2025 it has now matured in the cellar for many years and did sell out quickly.

If you are lucky to still have a bottle, 2025 is a good year to drink this.

Busi-Jacobsohn Classic Cuvée Brut 2017, Eridge, England, 12%
Let’s be honest, some sparkling wine (including champagne) can be dull. Boring. It’s fine, it’s classic, it’s more or less what you expect but it just…doesn’t really thrill or excite you. Which is a shame, given the price tag often attached.
This fizz is the antidote to all that. It’s brimming with character. Aromas include freshly baked bread and clotted cream, with fresh appley fruit. On the palate, it’s complex, coherent and moreish, perfectly balanced.
We loved its bold yet balanced style, with so much energy and personality. ‘Like a really good grower champagne,’ was Susie’s comment.
The estate is based in the High Weald of East Sussex and the wine is made at Ridgeview. The blend is 60% Chardonnay with 20% Pinot Noir and 20% Meunier.
